Moms Rule, Dads Drool

As I watched my extremely artistically talented daughter (hey, it's MY blog and I can brag about my kids if Jeana says I can!) paint something this evening that I couldn't sketch drawing stick figures, I was reminded of my first (and last) art judging gig with Jamie that feels like yesterday, even though it was a few (several) years ago when the children were 5 and 9, and (mostly) agreeable. Sigh.


Anyway, it was quick, and went something like this:

  • Jamie: "Hey Dad! Sofia and I each drew a sun, and you have to say which is better."

  • Dave: "Oh boy..." (Dave then spews a laundry list of the super-spectacular adjectives to describe each sun in a perfectly balanced way). "So, I just have to say that I like them both the same."

  • Jamie: "C'mon, Dad! You can't say that! You have to choose!"

  • Dave: "But Jamie, that's a little unfair to me. Sometimes we like two or more things or two people exactly the same. I love you and Sofia the same amount. What if I asked you, 'Who do you like better, me or Mom?'"

  • Jamie: "Mom. See, that was easy. Now it's your turn.

  • Me:
